Hi everyone! How are things? Let us begin by saying a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to subscribe to The Cosy Corner! I’m so pleased that you’re enjoying it and your early feedback has been very helpful, I look forward to creating more for you! ๐ฅฐ
Now, are you ready to FALL deep into an autumnal quest? A journey I took to find 6 books that would carry on a calming experience? โจ๏ธ The other night I started reading Unfamiliar by Haley Newsome through Kindle Unlimited and it got me excited for more autumnal reads so I threw caution to the wind and trekked through book after book (very slowly as my kindle lags ๐คฃ, does anyone else’s do that?) and managed to get a few that were on my wishlist as well! (I had amazon gift card money that I use for ebooks and seeing as I’m out of my reading rut I thought, why not treat myself, live in the moment and all that jazz!).
Reading Unfamiliar was the first graphic novel that I’d delved into via my kindle since the second Heartstopper book a couple of years ago and I’d forgot how nice it can be to read a graphic novel on a kindle in general. With some you want to have them in your hands but with others you just want to get lost in something and the route you take to do that doesn’t matter, even if it is in black and white kindle style ๐คฃ. I ended up getting 2 graphic novels and the rest of the six are all set in their own worlds! (IMO Kiki’s Delivery Service is another world as she’s a witch right? ๐). So yeah, I just gave one of the books away, deal with it and read on! ๐คญ
Oh and I will be reviewing all of these books as an audio over on The Cosy Corner so if you want to listen to that and hear my thoughts, go subscribe! I’m reading as we speak โบ๏ธ.

Let us begin by talking about the first book I purchased: Garlic & the Vampire by Bree Paulsen! This has been on my radar for a year or so now and it’s the cover that initially got me, its super cute! Our hero Garlic must face a deadly vampire that has moved into a nearby castle within a village of vegetable folk. Garlic is used to staying in her comfort zone and is shrouded with self doubt, will she make it and defeat the deadly vampire? After all as the summary explains, Garlic drives away vampires right?
This book sounds like its going to be so good and I know it will be the first one I begin as its just too intriguing not to!
Next up is Witches of Brooklyn by Sophie Escabasse, this is about a girl called Effie who notices that her aunts are weird in a magical type of way and wonders, can she do magic too? Effies life is about to get a whole lot more interesting when her aunts, newfound friends and a cursed pop-star are thrown into the mix! This sounds like a cosy journey, perfect for autumn and I’m here for it!
Moving on we have Lore of the Wilds by Analeigh Sbrana, a book that I have felt pulled towards! I only just realised its available on Kindle Unlimited so I didnt have to buy it ๐ซ but we don’t dwell on things here, do we? ๐ This book follows Lore who learns the hard way that a deal with a fae lord in order to save your village when you’re trapped in a forested prison might just involve a trick or two, especially when you want to gain magic yourself! Forced to rely on two male faes in order to survive and of course her heart only goes and gets involved, what will be her fate?
I’ll admit I liked the cover before I’d even read the plot and I don’t care because I don’t think I made a mistake with this book! ๐๐คฃ And yeah, I’m twisting up the official summarys in order to make this post flow better and I’m getting myself all excited for the books!! ๐โจ๏ธ
Wish of the Wicked by Danielle Paige is the fourth book and its one I’m super excited to read. I’ve never thought about the fairy godmother in cinderella as having an ulterior motive but in this book she has revenge on her mind towards the queen and the best way to get back at her? Well it’s through her son the prince of course! ๐ซข But the closer she gets to him, the more she risks losing all that she cares about. My god this book sounds good! Sometimes these fairytale twists are even better than the origonal story and I’m hoping that is true for Wish of the Wicked!
Next, of course I had to get Kiki’s Delivery Service! I’m a huge Studio Ghibli fan and perhaps I should be embarrassed that I’m yet to read the book but we’re here now! This was a book I thought I wanted to own a physical copy of but the ebook was such a fair price (ยฃ3.88 – the price is in pounds as kindle charges me in that currency), I couldn’t leave it behind! Kiki’s Delivery Service follows a young witch venturing out into the world with hopes of finding a village to call home but thats not easy when your namesake fails you and you’re not very good at potions or spells. She embarks on this journey with her beloved cat Jiji and many an adventure comes her way!
Once you watch Kiki’s Delivery Service you can’t not love it for whatever reason that may be, it’s just captivating and such a feel good film! I’m hoping the same goes for the book! โบ๏ธ
The last book of the haul is Damsel by Evelyn Skye! I think it was last year I watched Damsel on Netflix and I thought it was brilliant! Millie Bobby Brown was fantastic as Elodie, she really brought the character to life. It’s been a long time since a film made me want to read a book but I’m ready! I don’t know how I feel about the fact that I know what happens but maybe the film left out some parts ๐ค.
The story follows Elodie who thinks she’s going into a loving marriage that will see to the end of her poverty stricken people but what she’s really going into is an age old tradition where a sacrifice must be made and to a dragon, no less! ๐ฑ Sorry, I’m really getting into this! ๐คฃ I loved the movie, Damsel and I’m excited to see whether or not the book or the film is better!
So, what are your thoughts on my haul? Wanna hear my humble opinion on each and every book mentioned? ๐ Then The Cosy Corner is the place to be! Head on over and subscribe for exclusive audios spoken by me! ๐ The review will be up soon.
I’m also reading some books from Kindle Unlimited at the moment that are giving off severe autumnal vibes, if you want me to do a post on them then let me know! ๐ I’d be more than happy to write it ๐.
Have you read any of these? I’d love to hear any autumnal recommendations you have for a good old read! Theres nothing like having time to yourself to settle back with a good book, whether it be an audiobook, a physical book or an ebook, the comforting feeling shines through and I hope you get to feel that this autumn! ๐
I’ve gotta go now but I’ll be back again next Saturday with another blog post! Until then I hope you have a really nice week โจ๏ธ Stay safe, take care and buh-bye! ๐xx
Iโm interested in reading Garlic and the Vampire. Iโve watched Damsel and loved it. I love Millie Bobby Brown and will watch anything sheโs in. Have you watched Enola Holmes 1& 2 yet. I didnโt realize Damsel was a book.
