Hi everyone! How are you? Ready for an extra post? As you can probably tell by the title, this isn’t going to be the blog post I had originally wanted it to be 😅. A year or so ago my sister treated me to this kit we found in Tkmaxx, the DIY Christmas Mouse Sewing Kit. I was nervous to begin but this Christmas I finally decided to give it a go!

Looking at the instructions sheet I was immediately met with confusion but after going through it with a family member it began to make sense. My problems didn’t end there tho. I’m not great at sewing and it’s been a long time since I last did it but I did my best and in the very beginning stages (1 & 2 which is just sewing up the back) all was going well…until I realised the kit was missing one of the mouses arm sides 🫠.

I gave it a break whilst I ate dinner and was initially going to give up, but then I decided I would carry on and keep the arm flat instead of stuffed (as one side would be missing). Spurred on by this idea I gave it another go. I then looked ahead in the instructions (they were pictures with no words) and the part where you make the mouses head really confused me but I made sense of it in the end. It was almost like reasons to stop kept throwing themselves at me but I kept at it!
I then did a lot of sewing! At one point I just collapsed back dramatically in my chair announcing that I’d done it wrong as I really thought I had 😂 but I decided that I wouldn’t know for sure unless I kept going so I did and I wish I had stopped and thought longer about it because I made a big mistake: I sewed the half missing arm inside it by accident 😭 like, why???

After a laugh (I’m surprised I wasn’t overly upset, I think I’d got all of the dramatics out of me 🤣) I wanted to keep going! Mostly I was just glad the whole thing hadn’t fallen apart when I’d turned it inside out as I didn’t think the stiches were strong enough. I then went to bed as it had been a long day and the next day was another long day but it was nice to get into a craft in the evening, I’m not one to do that and the idea kept getting recommended to me so it was a nice change of pace.
When I had left the craft it had been at a tricky point, the ears, which weren’t scrunching up like they were meant to so when I went back to it the next day I had a tough road ahead of me 🤣. The next day I realised I’d also sewed the legs closed inwards too 🙄 but at this point I was just ready to get stuck in and carry on so I did! That evening I did so much of it, I discovered that the head/neck and connecting the ears was the easiest and most fun bit. Okay so I did sew one ear to an extra bit of the face but I fixed it!! 😂
I didn’t have the extras to make the present the mouse holds but he doesn’t have the arms/legs to support it’s weight anyway so that’s fine. I then had to sew the head on which looked to be tricky and and just when the end was in sight….I broke the needle 😑. Luckily we have spares so I carried on and finished that bit. Next it wanted me to sew on eyes and nose but I didn’t know how 🙈 so I glued on the nose alone instead as it was fluffy whereas the eyes were plastic and probably wouldn’t hold. I then tied the scarf around it’s neck and ta da!!

Despite the mistakes I really got lost in the sewing and enjoyed making it, I’m definitely going to do more kits! Maybe I could document that journey on here?
I feel like this post was one long ramble (maybe because it was 🤣) but it was nice taking you through this and going through all of the funny things that happened! I’ve gotta go now but I might pop on here on Christmas day! 🎄🤐 I hope that those of you who celebrate it are enjoying the festive season and I’ll see you real soon! Buh-bye ✨️💗

Oh boy! Sounds like you had quite the adventure making him! I think for a first attempt you did really well! I know that if it had been me, I would have rage quit at the very start! 😂
