Graphic Novels I’d recommend! #2 πŸ˜πŸ“š

Hiya! How are you doing? Well I hope πŸ’•. For today’s post I’m back sharing some more graphic novels I’d recommend (You can find part one of this series here). I absolutely adore reading graphic novels so its nice paying homage to them all in these posts! I’ve already got part 3 and 4 of this series planned out I’ve read that many so far πŸ˜…πŸ€£. Anyway! Welcome into a fellow bookworms mind, let me tell you all about the next load of graphic novels I’d recommend!

Girl on Fire

By Alicia Keys and Andrew Weiner

Lolo Wright always thought she was just a regular fourteen-year-old dealing with regular family drama: her brother, James, is struggling with his studies; her dad’s business constantly teeters on the edge of trouble; and her mother . . . she left long ago. But then Lolo’s world explodes when a cop pulls a gun on James in a dangerous case of mistaken identities. Staring down the barrel, with no one else to help, Lolo discovers powers she never knew she had. Using only her mind, she literally throws the cop out of the way.

Problem is that secrets like Lolo’s don’t stay a secret for long. Skin, a dangerous dealer with designs on taking over the neighborhood, hears of Lolo’s telekinetic abilities and decides that he needs her in his crew. Skin might not have Lolo’s powers, but he’s got nothing to lose and is willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. And what he wants is Lolo.

Lolo’s not willing to let Skin use her to hurt the peopleβ€”and neighborhoodβ€”that she loves. But it’s going to take a whole different kind of bravery to stand-up for what’s right, especially after Lolo’s mom returns suddenly and turns Lolo’s whole world upside-down. For too long, it’s true, Lolo’s had her head in the clouds, but this time, it’s on her . . . and she’s not backing down.

This was such an empowering read and it kinda reminded me of Ms Marvel! I loved the art and how all-encompassing the story was too.

A Business Proposal

By Narak, Perilla & Haehwa

After being worked to the bone at her office job, getting introduced to her longtime crush’s new girlfriend, and dealing with her family’s debt hanging over her head, Hari Shin’s life seems to have hit rock bottom. Luckily, her friend Youngseo has a business proposal for her: go to an arranged date in her stead and Hari will receive a hefty compensation. Things grow complicated, however, when it turns out that the other party is Hari’s new CEO―and he’s dead-set on marrying whoever shows up to the date!

I LOVE this Netflix series so I had to read the graphic novel and it did not disappoint! The artistry was incredible too.

Drama

By Raina Telgemeier

Callie loves theatre. And while she would totally try out for her middle school’s production of Moon Over Mississippi, she’s a terrible singer. Instead she’s the set designer for the stage crew, and this year she’s determined to create a set worthy of Broadway on a middle-school budget. But how can she, when she doesn’t know much about carpentry, ticket sales are down, and the crew members are having trouble working together? Not to mention the onstage AND offstage drama that occurs once the actors are chosen, and when two cute brothers enter the picture, things get even crazier!

This book made me want to be a part of a stage crew!! It was such a calming read, you have to give it a go, I got lost in it!

The Girl from the Sea

By Molly Knox Ostertag

Fifteen-year-old Morgan has a secret: She can’t wait to escape the perfect little island where she lives. She’s desperate to finish high school and escape her sad divorced mother, her volatile little brother, and worst of all, her great group of friends…who don’t understand Morgan at all. Because really, Morgan’s biggest secret is that she has a lot of secrets, including the one about wanting to kiss another girl.

Then one night, Morgan is saved from drowning by a mysterious girl named Keltie. The two become friends and suddenly life on the island doesn’t seem so stifling anymore. But Keltie has some secrets of her own. And as the girls start to fall in love, everything they’re each trying to hide will find its way to the surface…whether Morgan is ready or not.

This was a very intriguing novel with each turn of the page pulling me in deeper. The drawings were super cute, I felt like I was watching a film over reading a novel!

The Sad Ghost Club Series

By Lize Meddings

Six simple words, and suddenly Sam doesn’t feel so alone. A heart-warming series about friendship, compassion and finding your kindred spirits. This is the story of one of those days – a day so bad you can barely get out of bed, when it’s a struggle to leave the house, and when you do, you wish you hadn’t. But even the worst of days can surprise you. When one sad ghost, alone at a crowded party, spies another sad ghost across the room, they decide to leave together. What happens next changes everything.

I am obsessed with this series and rightfully so! I would recommend it to everyone, it’s such an insightful look into relatable personality traits and I was hooked on reading them. They were so easy-going!

Doughnuts and Doom

By Balazs Lorinczi

Being a teenage witch–or rock star–is tougher than it looks! But maybe enemies can become friends…or more? Flying brooms and electric guitars set hearts aflame in this fantastically fizzy graphic novel.
When Margot meets Elena, emotions run high, magic is in the air, and doughnuts…float? One is a stressed-out witch trying to get her potions business off the ground, the other is a struggling rock musician whose band is going nowhere. Neither of them are having a good time! No wonder things quickly escalate from words to literal sparks flying when they first meet. Could this be the start of a delicious new relationship…or is a bad-luck curse leading them to certain doom?

This was a cosy read and I had no idea where the story was going which is always way nicer than predicting early on what will happen.
