Hello there! Fancy seeing you here π The title of this post has changed so many times π΅. At first I thought I wanted to continue on from my favourite YouTubers post that I wrote back in 2017 (to think I believed that I was creating a long term series back then π΅ππ), my preference has changed so much since then and it would be interesting to compare but then I realized that I don’t really enjoy watching many specific YouTubers any more, I’ll search for various videos instead so this post is going to showcase that!
I spend very little time on YouTube as I’m more into written content like blog posts so I’m no guru (I’ll only be on it 5-10 mins tops and not even every day π People be wondering why I’m even writing this post π). It has its time in my life so I wanted to acknowledge that. Back when I really wished to use the app it’d take all of my credit so I couldn’t and now that I can use it I’m not as interested as I thought I’d be (life’s weird like that, we want something until we can actually have it or at least I do!).
The fact that I don’t frequent YouTube a lot means that when I am on there, I know what I want to watch so let me share it with you, starting with……
Recipes & food animation π€€
I’m not even intentionally on the lookout for things to make, I just want to watch someone throwing something delicious together! It’s highly therapeutic β¨ Especially when you don’t see the person you just see a bowl, ingredients and hands making the magic happen ππ. Occasionally I’ll get an idea of what to make which is an added extra! I’m also hypnotized by compilations of cartoon food π (mostly Studio Ghibli), it’s the definition of aesthetically pleasing and I’ll even go as far as saying I think it looks better than real food half the time!! π€€π²
Nostalgic stuff
This goes for a lot of things like music and TV shows I grew up with and I’ll often rediscover past loves + get lost in them all over again. Does anyone else remember PopGirl? π I wish they’d never stopped it. Loads of full episodes of the shows it had are actually on YouTube so do not fear! π YouTube’s great for stuff like that (lil trips down memory lane π).
Art π¨
For a long time I’d be recommended snippets of Bob Ross tutorials but I never felt inclined to check them out until one time I did and I have never been more hypnotized in my life! I get what people mean when they say ASMR, I mean you can hear the flipping brush strokes π. I’ll also check out crafts (promising myself I’ll give them a go but to no avail!) and people painting a wall in their room wondering if I could muster up the strength to be let lose at mine with a bucket of paint and not end up regretting my life choices because I actually like things the way they are and don’t know why I’m tempted to mess it all up…..and breathe π therapy is hard π
Lo-fi music & other calming sounds
I like to watch those study type videos but I ain’t studying π. I listen to them when I’m not planning on doing anything else in that moment in time and they soothe my mind. I keep telling myself to put them on in the background when I’m writing or reading but I don’t know if that would work for me, I enjoy a comfortable silence too much. Especially when it’s intercepted by sounds of birds tweeting and a breeze ruffling through the trees (which probably isn’t silence at all now that I think about it π€π). My favourite is this one but I’ve only just touched upon the tip of the iceberg with them as there are always different versions to be found! πΆβ¨
A while back I created a compilation of raindrop sounds through a playlist on YouTube in hope of it helping to send me off to sleep but for the most part at night as it played I was just aware that my phone was on and that the battery would be dead by morning π. HERE’S my favourite one of rain hitting upon the roof of a car! π§οΈ
Getting lost in hypes that proper fans probably wouldn’t call hypes π
My definition of a hype is something that will be a passing phase for me (everything but my blog tends to be one π). I’ll want to see what the fuss is about with things like K-pop & Hamilton for example and I’ll fall down a rabbit hole and to some extent understand before the excitement of finding something fizzles out and I’ve moved onto something new. It happens so damn much and I wish I could just stick to being obsessed with something not only momentarily but I guess it means I’m multifaceted if anything π€·π. I’ve only heard a couple Hamilton songs but they’re really good! I originally saw them perform as guests on a TV show and that led me to want to hear more on YouTube. I can tell what all the fuss is about because I didn’t even know the lyrics but I still wanted to sing ππ.
I think I distance myself a bit because I don’t know if I’ll see the musical so I’d hate to become invested and only end up breaking my heart through not watching that π. I think K-pop is something I should have discovered earlier if I was going to become a huge fan because I mostly listen to what I grew up with (but in saying that, a few old songs on my mp3 are K-pop and I never even knew it so maybe they’ve been weaving their way into my life and I’m just chatting away about nothing π). Tbh I’m avoiding going further into the subject because I found a song I really liked the other day but it’s not on my history now so I’m annoyed with myself for not taking note of what it was called π.
Learning something new
This section keeps deleting itself from the post but we’ll see how it goes π€. I’m all for fun facts and I love learning new things (whether or not I can stick to one topic is a whole other story though π). For most of my time spent on YouTube I’ll hop on to watch tutorials on how to do things as I fall out of one hobby into another π¨π²
Different walks of life/Adventure/Travel
One channel I do enjoy is that of The Radford family! They come across as such lovely people and it’s interesting seeing what life would be like as a large family. Stuff like Jane McDonald’s cruise shows or Ben Fogle’s Life in the Wilderness (which I like to watch whenever I can catch it on TV) are brilliant! They’re great in catching an insight into how people live off the beaten track. With each episode of a show like that I come away feeling like I’ve learned something new or want to try whatever I’ve seen out β¨.
I’m currently compiling a travel ideas folder so videos will give me tips and an insight into what places are like and are a great sounding board to have. Sometimes I’ll even watch videos of people going to my favourite places so that I can listen to their perspective on it or just wish I’m back there again (I’m basically using them to rediscover memories π«π).
miscellaneous
Random stuff falls under this! Ideas for things to do or make (maybe I should have put that under Art? πΆπ). Funny stuff like clips from my favourite shows and also gaming videos: I’ll watch runthroughs of someone playing a game I’m thinking of getting but not for long because I don’t want to ruin the future experience for myself π. They can often be very funny, especially when they feature zombies! πΉ… probably not a Zombie emoji but we’re working with what we’ve got here ππ.
Thank you for reading! π What do you enjoy watching on YouTube? Let me know in the comments below and I hope you have a brilliant day! π
Lo-fi music really is such a vibe, I love listening to all those compilations! I started listening to them while studying and now I can hardly do without them haha oh no!

I honestly love Youtube but instead of Genres I tend to watch different channels! E.g I watch Saffron Barker, Anastasia Kingsnorth and Brooklyn and Bailey!

I think my sister likes Saffron Barker too! When it comes to channels it’s rare that I’ll find an individual person I like to watch + stick with but I’m more likely if I’ll come away having learned something from it β¨ Thanks so much for reading ππ

I also listen to Lo-Fi. It helps me focus. Itβs similar to chillstep which is my favorite type of music. I feel like your link to the YouTube vid has the most popular Lo-Fi preview pic. I see this one everywhere! π
I used to listen to Nightcore and used to make nightcore music (I have a youtube channel under the name hellokitty8404) but I havenβt updated it in years. Tbh I think I outgrew Nightcore. Chillstep is where itβs at now. βοΈπΈππ

I have never really got that into whiling away aways with YouTube but I have just got sky box upgrade so can now watch YouTube on the tv so considering that tv is poor at the moment t as everyone struggling to record new programmes, I should bear it in mind as an entertainment option π

Yeah same, it hardly ever pulls me in/has my attention but I do enjoy the moments when it does! β¨ That sounds so cool, I’m actually looking around at the moment for a TV recorder that doesn’t need WiFi/Ethernet and it’s mighty tough to find it π Want one so that I can watch things I don’t get to see throughout the day so have to keep looking! Thanks for reading π
