Good afternoon! (It’s afternoon where I am so you’re just gonna have to take it on the chin π€·π). How are you doing? π I was going to say: “Correct me if I’m wrong but I think this is the first ever story prompt I’ve shared with you guys π€ Well I HOPE it is or else the title of this post is a downright lie if I ever did see one π”…..and then I realized I have shared one HERE so we’re off to a great start there πππ.
Are you ready for a random post thrown into the mix of all the nice and normal things I’ve been writing lately? (Whatever the latter of the two is π«π). Today’s scribbles were spurred on from when the term Hell’s Bell’s came to mind yesterday evening and I ended up writing the following piece within the space of half an hour (I don’t know if I should be saying that and letting you know how last minute it was but let’s just throw caution to the wind for once ππ). For those of you that are unaware, hell’s bell’s is an exclamation of surprise or frustration and I for one have no idea why it came to me π.
Honestly though, the amount of words you can take on and not even realize are within you is unreal. All I knew in that moment was that it is associated with shock and I felt that when I realized I’d could get a post out of this ππ. I kind of took the term and ran with it when writing but I also held onto that element of surprise/shock.
I haven’t had to say that a post might be a trigger in a long time and I’m actually unsure whether or not this one really is but I’ll just put that there anyway so that you can’t say I didn’t warn ya! (And the name is a total giveaway as well so…π). Usually I’ll just jump into my more storylike post’s but this one needed an introduction so that I could say that it’s purely fictional. I cannot highlight that enough ππ.
It kind of reminds me of the start of the Good Omens book by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett by just the thought of a gate….I never did get far enough to figure out if they were the gates to heaven or hell (and she calls herself a Neil Gaiman fan? I swear I heard someone mutter π). But anyway, I will just show you the story which is quite short now that it’s been typed out and I’ll stop mumbling on as THAT was quite the chatterbox intro, Hell’s Bell’s made me think:
The gates aren’t pearly like the saying goes. Is this a trick? I’m not a good person but that doesn’t make me bad so maybe it’s just an off day and the cleaner hasn’t arrived yet. Feet moving forward like it’s meant to be but they’re dragging indecisively like I don’t really want this. I’m parting the mist that hangs thick in the air as I kick at the rubble beneath my clean shoes. I washed them for a special occasion not entirely unlike this.
I’m fearless but that’s not all strength. Confused and numb I trudge wearily on because I am curious, do I really want to know? But it’s too late now, the bells sound and I hear them loud and clear. Intermingled in-between the space of each toll are the cries for help that mirror those they hurt up above.
Then when all is said and done, when the very last cry cuts off, the air is filled with silence. The type that breaks your chain of thought and makes you turn around expecting to finally witness the eery entity that stands behind you before it disappears. It always disappears but you know someone or something was initially there. It doesn’t bear thinking about or else I’m willingly feeding the intention it had in mind.
I’m about to make a difficult decision, you’d think I was teetering on the edge of insanity but I’m actually referring to the end of the road which isn’t all that. Vision fogged I’m wondering if perhaps I should get lost instead. Where do you go if you find a loophole out of eternity? Hell’s bell’s pierce’s the film that has concealed my hearing for so long and I’m torn.
Phew! I got lost in writing that π Probably wouldn’t be the best idea to keep on at it but at the same time I’m interested in doing just that. Thank you for reading! π« What are your thoughts on it? Do you like to write using prompts? I’ve always found them to be quite fun but only on the odd occasion have they taken off and been something I have wanted to continue with. What would you write after hearing the term: Hell’s Bell’s? Let me know in the comments below and I hope you have a nicer day than the person in this story ππ Take care β€οΈ
Writing prompts are so fun (as you know from my challenge) and really set you on track when it comes to writing π Elsie this was so well-written! I could feel the characterβs confusion and shift in the emotions, how anxious they became as time ticked on. I wonder if we do ever walk through the gates of heaven (hopefully) or hell… moving on, you should definitely continue this, of course only if youβre comfortable but I definitely enjoyed it βΊοΈ Hope youβre doing okay!

Yeah it was so easy to get lost in doing! β¨ A great way to get back into writing my novel, I should just prompt myself a bit at a time as going at it all at once hasn’t seemed to work for a while π Ahhh thank you so much!! Really appreciate hearing your thoughts on it β¨ I’m okay thanks, trying to find a hobby or something I can undertake in my own name as I feel like I do everything under Elsie LMC and somewhat distance myself from Lucy π Hope you’re okay too and have a lovely day! β€οΈ

Prompts are brilliant! Whole posts can certainly come from a good prompt and lead you to thoughts you hadn’t considered before.
