Hallo! ๐ (Sorry I wanted to sound like I was from an Enid Blyton novel, it won’t happen again ๐๐). Let’s cut to the chase, I was born in 1998 and I thought it would be a fun idea to share my favourite songs from that year courtesy of my mp3 player! It would be interesting to do a project on all that occurred in the year I was born but for now we’ll just stick with music because let’s face it, I’m the best thing that year could have ever asked for ๐๐ (amiright? “You’re not wrong” Why thank you kind passer-by who didn’t leave me hangin ๐).
I pretty much like all types of music, old and new, so there are probably loads more that are from 1998 that I enjoy but they’re not logged down as that on my mp3 so I’ll never know the truth ๐ต (the frustration is real ๐๐). If you were also born in 1998 then we can battle it out to the death, just pick a time and place…..I won’t turn up because of isolation (not because of fear at all ๐๐๐).
I have linked each of the following songs to it’s corresponding YouTube video so you can check them out if you like, it’s completely up to you so yeah…do it! Here goes everything (well everything that I can think of anyway ๐):
You Get What You Give – New Radicals
Such a feel good, motivational song and it brings back a load of memories ๐ซ Now that I think of it, this seemed to be playing on the radio whenever I walked into a room when I was younger or at the very least those moments are grouped together in my mind ๐
…Baby One More Time – Britney Spears
I couldn’t not include this! ๐ค When I went to see Britney live she lip synced which disappointed a lot of people but despite that, a great time was still had as her songs are so iconic! I remember the people in front of us standing up for this song which semi annoyed us because then we couldn’t see the stage (and why buy seats when you intend to stand? ๐ค But I suppose the seats are backup for if you get tired) but they got told to sit down after a while because the seats were at a slope and it was dangerous to be up incase you fell. Do you like how I’ve changed the subject from the song itself because I don’t know what to say about it? Oh wait, it’s a great song! There you go, I said something ๐.
I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing – Aerosmith
One word… Legendary! What a tune *nods nostalgically and tries to think of more to say but hopes that you’ll just click on the link and agree if you haven’t heard it already….even if you have you should take another listen purely for the vibe I’m going for* ๐
Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) – The Offspring
This is probably the song that I listen to the LOUDEST. It’s a habit that I can’t seem to break so I stopped trying to a long time ago and my eardrums hate me for it ๐
Ahhh hold on, I just dropped my pen on my glasses and need to check for scratches on the lenses ๐ค..๐๐๐….and we’re back ๐ค Don’t write whilst laying down with a notebook above you when you really should be sleeping is all I can say! ๐๐
Yes, it’s that song from A Cinderella Story ๐ Out of all on this list I probably go around singing this one the most ๐
This song brings back memories of being at Croke Park waiting for the Spice Girls to come onstage. Looking down at the standing crowd who were all hopping up and down in time to the music as it played, that moment felt so incredibly and undescribably Irish ๐๐
This is a song that I have to be in a particular mood to listen to but I still like it or else it wouldn’t be on my mp3! (Even if I don’t feel as though that “like” measures up to the love I feel for the other songs ๐).
Doo Wop (That Thing) – Lauryn Hill
There are a couple of songs I have saved to a bookmark on my mp3 that I mentally (and unintentionally) choreograph dance routines for ๐ (it just seems to happen ๐) and of course this is one of them! Maybe I should write a blog post and share the other songs saved to that bookmark?? Will be tricky to shorten “songs that I’ve mentally choreographed a dance routine for” into a post title but I’ll make it happen don’t you worry about that!….oh you weren’t? Well you didn’t have to tell me that! ๐ง
Some of the best relationships are built on mistrust (I think that’s right ๐ค or distrust/untrust…*someone in the distance shouts “it’s trust!”* but we’ll just ignore them) so I’d appreciate it if in the future you’d not speak your mind and cause further upset because posts just go on longer and longer if you do, a bit like this really ๐ Where were we? Oh yeah, you were worrying right!? On that note…
Thank YOU for reading! ๐ If you enjoyed this post then feel free to check out my feel good playlist which will let you in on my musical preferences that bit more as it’s not contained to a single year like this ๐๐ I know it’s rude to ask how old you are but feel free to leave your favourite song from the year you were born in the comments below (which will basically give away your age anyway ๐๐). Hope you have a wonderful day! Take care ๐
I love the idea of songs from the year you were born, so creative! Baby one more time is iconic ๐

I was born in 2004 and I think my favourite song from that year is Somewhere Only We Know (manly because of the John Lewis ad that came many years later).
This is such an interesting concept! I love it!

That song is life! ๐ The version on my mp3 cuts off too soon at the end which really annoys me, must have come from a scratched CD ๐
I would have thought my favourite John Lewis ad would be the Bastille one as I’m obsessed with them but they played it so much that they unintentionally put me off my fav band for a while ๐๐ Ahh thank you! ๐ I’m so happy you enjoyed it โจ๐

The Bastille one was super cute too! The John Lewis adverts are always just great and so much fun!

That is NOT the effect I wanted it to have on anyone ๐๐ although I’m aware there might be people who read this from years that will make me feel old too and that’s going to be tough to deal with ๐๐ Thank you so much for reading! ๐๐

Interesting mix! My faves from that year are El President by Drugstore and Kiss the Rain by Billie Myers. ๐

I recognize El President but I’m not sure from where! (This is going to really annoy me until I figure it out ๐). Thank you so much for reading! ๐๐

Remind me of being a teenager. Not that Iโm now feeling old or anything. Have you looked up what was number 1 when you were born. I think if I remember rightly from when looked up when I was born it was a Town called Malice.
