Ways to see the sights whilst indoors! โœจ

Hello there! Welcome back to my blog, if you’re new then I’m just going to assume you’ve been here in another dimension and carry on like normal ๐Ÿ˜‚ seeing as you’re reading this post then I’m guessing you’re in isolation too, how are you finding it? (Maybe it’s the future and this whole thing is over by the time you’re seeing this? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ’ซ). Today I’m going to share some ways to see the sights whilst indoors, confused? I was too until I delved deeper into the idea with sheer determination to find ways to get through this ๐Ÿ™Œ

It only just properly occured to me the other day what strange times we are living in right now and how the majority of us are in the same boat. I had thought about it before but it never really clicked until I had this one moment that hit me and made me think “a LOT of people are home right now” ๐Ÿ˜‚ usually I will think people are off on these marvelous adventures while I’m at home but not these days. Lately I haven’t been able to get out into the garden because my flare-ups have been very bad day in, day out so I’ve been looking for other ways to get that burst of wanderlust when I’m in the mood for it โœจ I have always felt like there is a way around everything, it’s a mantra of mine if you will! And so here are some ways you can see the sights whilst indoors:

First of all there’s something that I mentioned in my April Favourite’s, Virtual tours! I like to use Google arts & culture but there are loads more to choose from that allow you to go on a wide array of adventures. So far I’ve seen art galleries and famous landscapes and I just know that one day I will be on the other side of the screen (not trapped in a phone ๐Ÿ˜ต actually there! ๐Ÿ˜‚) traveling to these amazing places! Of course looking at these snapshots/videos isn’t entirely the same as being out there but it’s the next best thing so take it or leave it ๐Ÿคท *a million people shout LEAVE IT* ๐Ÿ˜‚

Read a travel blog! ๐Ÿ“ท

I have always loved gawping at travel blogs and thanks to them I have built up quite the intimidating bucket list but these things can’t be helped ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿ˜‚ With the help of these you could gather inspiration for a future holiday and plan your trek around a destination or like me you could just get lost in intricate descriptions of hidden gems around the world that make you feel like you’re already there ๐Ÿ˜

Watch a documentary ๐ŸŒ

These are kinda like travel blogs except you can see them so it saves you having to use your imagination ๐Ÿ˜‚ YouTube is a great source of travel videos! My favourite travel documentaries are by Joanna Lumley as her voice is so calming and she just comes across as such a genuine and funny person.

Play “The Trail” game

I am obsessed with this game from the app store! I mentioned it when I told you about the things on my phone HERE and I wouldn’t be without it! In the game you travel down a trail through various landscapes/seasons and it so realistic you can almost feel a slight breeze ruffle your hair. You pick up trinkets/materials along the way and accept mini quests. Every now and then you arrive at a resting point where you can trade, sell, buy or craft before continuing on your journey and needless to say, I am obsessed! It’s such a feel-good, calming game and I’m always looking forward to playing it (as soon as I switch it off I’m ready to get back into it again to be fair ๐Ÿ˜‚).

Virtual reality games ๐ŸŽฎ

There are a lot of virtual reality games out there! The Trail (that I mentioned above) is kind of like that but you don’t have as much control over your movements. I’ve seen a lot of people playing Animal Crossing lately which I used to love because it makes you feel like you’re there inside the game โœจ I would buy the Nintendo Switch console but I’m still trying to get over how I’d only just purchased the Wii U and then all of a sudden they discontinued it ๐Ÿ˜ A betrayal like that is NOT easy to overcome ๐Ÿ˜‚ and I bet, as soon as I buy the Switch the same thing will happen so I’m taking a back seat here ๐Ÿ™Œ

The Sims can be a good escape too and my sister and I are crazy about Grand Theft Auto because we like driving around ๐Ÿ˜‚ There are so many games out there to try! (It’s almost getting me as excited as I was when I realized that there are a whole host of books out there for me to discover…๐Ÿ˜ฎโœจ๐Ÿ“š…but not quite as much because nothing is more powerful than my affection for books ๐Ÿ˜‚).

Use your imagination ๐Ÿ’ญ

I’m being serious! Close your eyes and try to picture a place you love but can’t go to write now โœจ Maybe you could draw a picture of it or you’ve got a photo of it? (Even better! ๐Ÿ˜‚). Why don’t you conjure up an image of what you’re going to do if you plan to go back to this place in the future? If it’s a holiday then imagine packing your bags (as that’s half the fun) and think of the journey it takes to get there and the joy you feel when you arrive ๐ŸŒˆ It doesn’t have to be a clear image in your mind (I know mines not! ๐Ÿ˜‚) but sometimes even just the idea of performing this task can help if you feel like the walls are closing in around you.

Rediscover memories and get lost in them ๐Ÿ’ซ

This is very similar to the above point but I think they’re different because these are controlled/directed! ๐Ÿ˜‚…Remember that little book of the things I love? Well I still have it and written inside is a list of memories of places that are magical to me amongst other things. I often pick it up solely to choose from them and spend some time putting myself back into that headspace because it makes me so happy to do so! โœจ

Listen to an adventure podcast ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ

I shared my favourite podcasts HERE earlier this year but although they put you in a different place they’re not exactly adventurous so I’m on an adventure of my own to find podcasts that help me to escape my surrounds and discover new places. Have you got any in mind? ๐Ÿค” So far I’m enjoying “Women on the road” ๐Ÿ›ต and “armchair explorer”.

And if all else fails: look out of the window! ๐Ÿ˜‚

In the evening I quite like sitting by an open window whilst the sun is setting. It clears my head breathing in the fresh air and not having the barrier of the glass between me and the outside world. The world drifts by and is waiting for us to return and it seems to be getting even more beautiful with wildlife returning to it ๐Ÿ’ซ Makes me wish I hadn’t gotten rid of a birdwatching book years ago as I could do with it now ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thank you for reading! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I hope you’ve found this post helpful in some way. Can you think of any more ways to see the sights whilst indoors? I’d love to hear your ideas so let me know in the comments below and have a lovely day! โค๏ธ

  2. These are such good tips Elsie! It is weird to think about how many people are stuck at home too, it is definitely a strange feeling ๐Ÿ˜‚ My travel list is crazy big, but one big thing Ive always wanted t do is visit The Grand Canyon, thereโ€™s something so vast and empty about it you know? Like you. Can kinda just โ€˜beโ€™ with nature ๐Ÿ˜† I love flicking through photos of it and lately Iโ€™m finding myself doing a lot of virtual travelling to countries ๐Ÿ˜‚ I will definitely be using these tips to have the whole experience of discovering a new place , thanks again Elsie for sharing this wonderful content! ๐Ÿ’•

      1. It really is, no problemo at all! ๐Ÿ’“ Tell me about it, New York City is top of my list but The Grand Canyon for more of an attraction is definitely top! ๐Ÿ’• Thatโ€™s amazing Elsie, enjoy your adventuring, that is going to be so fun! Iโ€™m quite unlucky because I live on an island so there arenโ€™t many places to venture to ๐Ÿ˜‚ It takes a 30 minute drive to drive across the width of the island haha! Everything happens for a reason and Iโ€™m sure you will enjoy it even more after all of this ๐Ÿ˜Š You too, yes I loved it!! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
