Why Negative Reviews are Important too! πŸ“šπŸΏ

Hi everyone! I hope you’re well πŸ’• I want to talk about a thought that occured to me recently. Something that might be controversial but I kinda doubt it πŸ˜‚ Whatever sparks a discussion I suppose! What do you think of when you hear the word negative? It’s sounds bad right? Well if you’re a regular reader here then you will probably know how I like to put a positive twist on things and today I’m at it again! πŸ’ƒπŸ˜‚

Let’s put it out there again… NEGATIVE. Does it make you think certain thoughts? (Does it annoy you that I put it in capitals because it sure does me πŸ˜‚). Have you separated yourself from the idea of writing about negative things? WHY?

It’s a word that holds grim connotations and yet I think a good side is hiding behind those letters, waiting to be highlighted. Well at least in this context anyway: not all negative things can be seen as good but I’m gonna look into why negative reviews are important too. Wanna know why? Then read on…

I like seeing negative reviews (that’s not something you hear everyday but I mean it! πŸ™ŒπŸ˜‚). For example, there are soooo many books out there that some of us take a shine to and others don’t and that’s just life. We’re all different and to see a realistic + honest portrayal of a person’s thoughts on something that they didn’t enjoy is a beautiful thing as it often gets hidden through fear of coming across as a naysayer.

You’re allowed to not love that movie everyone has been raving about, it’s okay to not carry on with a book series you were recommended because someone thought you’d become obsessed with it too when really it’s not your cup of tea. Don’t become influenced by the view that you have to say good things about something just to please others. Let out your real thoughts (in a respectful manner of course!) and I promise it will feel good πŸ’«

Your opinion is still valid and when others see it they might feel better about how they reacted to something that they felt out of the loop of too. See, it can bring about togetherness just as much as a positive review can. It’s good to not feel like we’re alone in our beliefs and it’s perfectly fine to share a “negative” review as they can hold positive connotations too in that you’re not keeping it to yourself because of feeling ashamed about it.

Whenever I’ve written a negative review I’ve checked through it like mad after to make sure I’m not coming across as a bully and why should I do that when I know that I’m not? I’m just letting out what I’m feeling to show that I’m human (I sometimes have to be reminded πŸ‘½πŸ˜‚) and that I feel things at both ends, happy and sad. It’s a HUGE relief to release these thoughts and not act like everything is perfect when we all know that it’s not anyway 🀷

So I have a question for you (when do I not? πŸ˜‚): Are you going to speak out about what you’re truly feeling in a review, be it positive or negative? We all love reviews that showcase a brilliant book but I think we should take notice of the reviews that do the complete opposite too and encourage ourselves and others to speak out about how they feel about things in all areas, not just the positive side (despite this whole post being positive 😡, my brain is majorly tongue-tied right now about this whole situation πŸ˜‚).

Thank YOU for reading! πŸ˜‰ Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below and as always I hope you’re having a lovely day ❀️

  1. It’s true! Sometimes you just have to be honest about reviewing things, and that is alright. I’m most brutally honest on reviewing food πŸ˜‚
I do not like it when some influencers in my country like to sugar coat reviews. πŸ™Š

    1. Thank you so much for reading! πŸ˜† Yeah, it’s always important to share your views in a respectful manner regardless of whether they are positive or negative and I wanted that to be known. Same! They need to know that it’s okay not to like things and share that view. Take care lovely πŸ’•

  2. I’ve been low key panicking all day, because I just posted negative review of an extremely popular book…thank you for your timely post. haha I’m also always worried about toeing the line between being a bully and being honest about how I felt while reading. I don’t always think I get it right, but I try my best each time.

    1. That’s good that you showed your true opinion! And all that you can do is try your best, we’re not inclined to like everything, the world would be a boring place if we did ✨ Thank you so much for reading! Take care πŸ’•

  3. This post was a joy to read, genuinely. I think negative reviewers are often dismissed for being ‘controversial’ or we at least have to place a disclaimer at the top of the post. Why should we? Honesty is key. I’ve often held back from writing a review because I don’t want to sound like a bully. I know what it’s like to write something but then have a negative response. I don’t want to be that person, so we must keep our language critical. I just don’t know how DX
Loved the thought behind this post. Keep writing creative things like this!

    1. YES!! That disclaimer bit really ticks me off. I shared a negative review a long time ago and luckily the author respected my opinion. Yeah it’s so difficult to get that balance in keeping our criticism at a level that is helpful and shows how you would have gone about doing things instead. Thank you so much lovely!! Take care πŸ’•

  4. In all honesty, negative reviews are my fave. I love writing a good rant review about something that I didn’t like. It’s really fun, therapeutic and a great way to use sarcastic humour πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  5. Hey…..you brought a lot of consideration into my mindπŸ˜‚. I’ve never really thought about this but negativity is something that we need in our daily lives. It helps us grow as people on the inside and outside. I love that you wrote this. Keep up with the good contentπŸ˜‹
