It never fails at 12 o’clock
the sound is not one you can block
I have a strange idea of where it comes from
when it jolts me awake my heart beats like a drum
it’s insane, I know it couldn’t possibly be true
but I think I’ve swallowed a watch and that this is my clue.
Sometimes when I yawn I hear a distant “tock”
and I honestly believe it is a mock
Im getting distressed, I don’t know how to overcome
this paranoia, it makes my mind feel numb.
When I told you, you laughed, we began to argue
It’s tearing the family apart, this issue.
If I could just get some sleep I know I’d drop like a rock
This realization has come as such a shock.
I would pay a hefty ransom
to be released from this routine…it’s very random.
I don’t know, maybe I’ll just have to accept it, the time is due
*RING RING* sleep is put on hold as is an end to a peaceful rendezvous.
Thank YOU for reading! This is a true story and if you’re truly concerned…I found out that the watch belongs to my sister and is NOT inside me π (although that doesn’t explain the “tock” sound I hear when I yawn π’π€). She works in a creche and one of the kids is obsessed with her watch and keeps setting alarms on it for midnight π I wrote this poem whilst in a huff about it one night and as it’s still going on I thought I’d share it with you as it’s a very big part of my life at the moment (impactful on my beauty sleep and and all ππ). I hope your sleep is better than mine πβ€οΈ
*wakes up in a panic!* OMG did I sign off the insulin?! Will my PT overdose because I didnβt sign off? OMG. π±
Yup. Waking up in a sheer panic scares the crap outta me. Another one is thinking that my earplug got stuck in my ear and that I canβt get it out. Iβm not sure how thatβs possible but that also jolts me out of a deep sleep. The horror! π±

ππ My sister sleeps with her headphones in and I don’t know how she could do it for that reason alone! π¬ Thank you for reading! π

I have to sleep in silence. I canβt stand light so I use an eye mask too. My husband sleeps with blahblahblah radio. Itβs SO boring that it could potentially put me to sleep too. π

I cannot bear silence at night! In summer I have a fan on to keep cool and in winter I have my sound machine that plays various things like ocean waves & white noise and that sends me off to sleep on a good night. Haha that’s hilarious! π

Itβs not truly silent for me since I have tinnitus in my right ear. I hear ringing constantly. Itβs incredibly annoying when Iβm trying to sleep, but I found that sleeping aids (I use natural supplements) help a little. If Iβm tired enough, Iβm able to ignore the tinnitus. Sometimes I use google home to play nature sounds on volume 10 (ha!) to help drown out the noise coming from the neighbors above me. They donβt go to bed until 2-3AM. I didnβt know a sound machine was a thing – Iβve heard of apps on a phone but an actual device sounds interesting.

That must be not nice at all. For a while before I received the sound machine as a Christmas present from my sister I had a playlist of rain sounds on YouTube that I’d listen to at night, it was very calming but I sometimes I still stayed awake as I was aware my phone was on playing it π The sound machine has come in very useful, it has around 7 different setting like thunder and rain but for the most part I’ve stuck to beach waves π

Beautiful poem! β€ Can't your sister take that alarm off of her watch? I hope your sleep will improve lovely. I have always a hard time to fall asleep. When I sleep, I sleep but it takes me time. I understand you lovely β€

Thank you! π I told her about it the other day (I’m the only one who hears it from my room) and she said she would get our dad to reset it as he knows how but with her being so busy we continue to forgot about it until the time it starts to ring again π thank you! π΄ Same, once I’m gone I’m gone but it takes a good while to settle down π
