My thoughts on the new Instagram “like”

Hi everyone! How are you keeping? ❤️ It’s time for a good old chat about something that I’ve seen a lot of people talking about…the new Instagram like system! I know it’s not exactly new anymore but the way people are still going on about it tells me that it basically is so I’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon and share my opinion too! (sure why not! 😂).

Incase you are unfamiliar with what has occurred over on the social scene, Instagram have altered the way we can view other people’s likes on their posts and likewise. They have done this by only allowing the owner of the account to be able to see exactly how many likes they have received on a post.

It kind of puts us all on the same level (ignoring the follower count), makes the space feel less daunting and above all allows for less self judgement ❤️

I actually really like it (pun intended 😂) and I think it’s very admirable that Instagram have listened & done something to change a thing that wasn’t so great about their platform. It’s brilliant in terms of worries over how many likes you’re gonna get on a post as no one but you can tell (unless they go through it & count everyone’s name but I suppose if they have the time to do that then their opinion doesn’t matter anyway!).

I understand that this in some ways makes things a little harder on people who have made a job out of social media but you can still tell if something has a lot of likes by clicking beside the photo so I don’t think that should deter people 🤷 Not everyone is affected by the number of likes they receive but for many it can be highly detrimental to their mental health and ruins/limits the experience that could otherwise be had and that should always be taken into consideration.

I think this will teach everyone that likes aren’t important, all that matters is sharing what you care about ✨
