Hi everyone! How are you? I recently mentioned on my unique blogger award post that I had one draft and it was a mini review on some locusts (I thought they were crickets at the time 🙈) I bought from TKmaxx….and ate! 🙊 I wrote it and then held back on posting it as I was incredibly embarrassed that I would believe it was worthy of a review in the first place 😂 and that I dined on them at all 😋. A couple of you asked me to post it and so I have decided to but if we can agree on one simple thing…we never talk about it again! 😂 This post was written a few months ago so I guess we are going back in time to a couple of days after the dreaded experience:
Todays post is a random short as I could not pass up the opportunity to show you this!! The last time I did a post where I described a taste (or thereabouts 😂) was my sour sweets haul and review (which was a dream compared to this!) This post is not a joke I swear! 😂 I would like to think it is but it is not. A couple of weeks ago I bought a small tub of locusts from TKmaxx by the brand Good Life and have been waiting for the best time to try them (after avoiding them 😂). They were €3 come down from €12 (allot of stickers as you can guess no one wanted them 😂) and I cannot resist a deal I’m afraid! 😂
They are advertised as being high in protein (not that that makes them any more approachable 😬😂). The first person to try one was my dad who said they taste like pistachios 😦 (update: they do not…either way I never want to eat pistachios again! 😂). On Wednesday I decided to bring them over to my friend’s house (the perfect guest always brings a gift 😂) where we were much smarter with the situation at hand 😂 what makes anything tasty??……… chocolate!! 😂 So locusts and chocolate spread it was!
Throw in a few photos to gross you out! Aren’t I lovely to you! 😂.
After grimacing for a good hour and wishing I could zip my mouth closed 🤐 I did it! I ate it!
I decided to start with a wing as for some reason I thought they would be like a crisp, a crisp that is incredibly difficult to digest! 😂 it wouldn’t snap 😫 even though it was small and paper thin so I spat that part out and I should not have! Because then I actually realized what I was eating and it sunk in just seeing a wing laying there 😂 I suppose it can’t be that different from eating chicken or bacon…dry 😐, but come on it’s an insect!! I feel evil and disgusting! 😂
I definitely found it easier to consider eating the half bodied ones (I can’t believe I’m actually writing this! 😂) because then you know for sure they’re dead! They should be anyway but I just don’t trust them. If you look at the jar too long it looks like they are moving!! 😬 I hate mind games!! I held my breath before I ate half a body (the side without the eyes looking at me accusingly) and washed it down with water. IT WAS CRUNCHY (excuse the captitals I’m screaming!) and I don’t think I have ever tried anything with the same texture before. The closest thing I can think of is flaky pastry 😬 The next body went down a sore treat with the chocolate spread 😜 want to know something even more horrible?…later when I was thirsty I drank that water forgetting it tasted like locusts and it was a struggle to keep it down 😨😂 I never want to think about it again!!…..well first I have to figure out what to do with the rest of the jar! 🤔😂 No one will go near them! So I thought I should dip them in chocolate and pass them off as fruit! 👍😂 What do you think? Would you have eaten them? 😬
Thank you for reading! 😉💗 What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten? Have a lovely day!

You ate Actual Locusts? Like they are not candy locusts?! I could not bring myself to touch a candy shaped one! No no no Lucy…I am feeling green in the face.

😂 I know! Yeah Tkmaxx and whenever I looked away it would end up back on the shelves as no one wanted me to try it 😂 ahh i would find it so hard to eat escargot! Eating alligator sounds intriguing but I know if it was on a plate Infront of me I would not eat it 😂

Hahaha, oh wow. Congrats to you for even trying them Elsie!! I don’t think I could have, I would have psyched myself out and convinced myself they were still alive 😂

Thank you so much!! 😂 I can’t believe I did! I would not have done it on my own, or without the chocolate spread 😂

Oh my goodness! I’ve eaten a worm before. That was all earthy and slimy. 😂😂😂

Eww was it alive? Is it worms that are still alive at one end when you kill them. I’d say a worm would be the hardest to eat if that’s the case! 😂

Yeah, you can’t exactly kill worms! It was over in an instant though. Not too bad.

Omg! I could never have eaten those, you’re brave haha (: when we had the cicadas come back, they were everywhere and there was an old woman that would go around with a grocery bag and collect them. I remember asking my mom what her problem was (like eww, that’s weird) and she told me that a lot of people eat them. I was shocked, but I guess it’s good lol

I can’t believe I did it! 😂 What!? Someone went round and collected them? 😨 What if she didn’t cook them properly and they had bacteria 😫 that’s so weird. I suppose she was preventing them from being a nuisance to other people 😂💗

Haha idk but they certainly still bugged me! There were so many out that summer that you couldn’t walk outside without getting hit in the face or body with a few!

That must have been a horrible summer 😫 and I thought we had it bad here in Ireland, but the worst we get is a load of tiny horseflies in this weather 😂
