Hi everyone! This post is going to be a short one because I can feel myself starting to cry already and I don’t think any tears remain after how drained I was left when my family came to this decision a couple of days ago.
On Sunday one of my dogs, Alex, might be going to live with a new family (if we think they will be good owners). Alex is 2 years old (almost 3) and we got her back in 2014 when she was a few weeks old. She is such a cheeky, playful, loveable dog. We got her on the 9th of October 2014. I remember the day because our oldest dog Heidi sadly passed away 2 days before on the 7th (she was very old so her death was incredibly difficult but peaceful in that her pain was short-lived). I also remember the 7th because Heidi died on the 10 year anniversary of the day we moved over from England (strange isn’t it? π¬π).
Alex helped us (and our dog Ruby who was 6) get through that time and introduced her unique personality that fitted perfectly into our wacky family. We love her so much π
My sister suffers from terrible allergies, hay fever and asthma and because of the dogs this has gotten to the point where she has been finding it difficult to breathe. This has caused panic attacks and is not helping her anxiety. We are not going to let this continue into the hot weather of the summer where her hay fever will be through the roof.
We have three dogs: Ruby (is a 8 year old Labrador), Alex (is a 2 year old husky sheepdog) and Toby (is a 2 year old cavachon whom we got shortly after Alex in 2015) and one cat: skirtsy. Toby doesn’t moult but Ruby and Alex do. We have decided to keep Ruby for now as she knows no one else but us and wouldn’t be able to handle leaving nearly as much as we wouldn’t be able to handle not having her π. Alex is the kind of dog that needs to be an only dog, she is very domineering and we know she will be okay. She will have a better quality of life. Not one where we fear her hair is spreading so don’t give her as much social contact as she deserves. We keep reminding ourselves that she is still young so now is the best time for her to settle in with a new family. The family we are meeting on Sunday have 3 children (around the age of 10) and Alex is amazing with children so hopefully they will treat her like a queen and give her a rest from time to time π. The mother of the family has been messaging asking what food Alex likes, how many walks she gets and so on as she wants Alexs routine and life to be as comfortable for her as possible. This makes me happy π. I reckon Alex has got it made with this family π. It’s a three hour journey to where this family lives but we will not hand her over if it’s not the right one.
Here is a pic of Alex (you can tell she’s a strong one can’t you? π)
I thought I would post this today because it’s all thats on my mind. I’m crying because of it but at the same time I hope it works out well with this family. Alex is around the same age that Heidi was when we got her so hopefully this new family and her will experience all the lovely memories we did π Love you Alex!!! ππ
Thank you for reading! ππ Have you ever had to rehome a pet before? How did you cope? We rehomed a cat when I was little and a crazy one eyed dog π but I can’t remember them very well. Have a lovely day!

She is absolutely beautiful! I really feel your pain. I am a massive dog lover and have 2 myself. I hope it all works out well her her. Stay strong x

Sorry to hear about your dog and your sister’s bad allergies. Although this change is difficult it is clearly necessary. Your family loves Alex and the fact that you’ve located a new family for her shows how much you all love her. π Treasure the memories you had with her and trust that she would make some new ones.
