How to test out a hobonichi journal without buying an actual hobonichi 🤫✨️

Hi everyone! And hello November 🥳 How are you? Things have been pretty hectic on this side but I always relish moments when I get to type out a blog post, it makes me feel right at home so here we are! 💫 Lately I came across hobonichi journals, I can’t even pinpoint the exact moment but I know it was on youtube and I was instantly intrigued! At first I didn’t think it was my thing as I’ve kinda given up on my artistic bullet journal days but the more I looked into it the more I could see hobonichi journals in a different light 💡.

I still need to look into the history of them and I’m excited to do so but I soon became excited to start my own but there was one problem, the investment when I wasn’t sure if I would even stick with it. I needed a way to try it out without forking out forty plus euro 🤣. To begin with I thought: maybe it’s just the habit tracker side of things you’re interested in so I purchased a cute graph notebook from temu for around €3 but when that came I was disappointed, the graph lines were incredibly faint so it wouldn’t work.

This is the graph notebook. it’s so cute!

I then found what I was looking for again on temu, a weekly diary laid out in a very similar way to a hobonichi journal! (It doesn’t have the extras like a specific textured paper that I’ve heard is nice or the other special pages but for a test it’ll do!).

From my calculations the hobonichi weeks journal I’m in love with (the 2026 plaid one) is €44 whereas I paid around €6 for this dupe on Temu and it comes with a clear case! Plus I like the fact that I don’t have to wait until 2026 to start, my one is unlabelled so I can simply begin! At the time of writing this post it is a Wednesday and I plan on prepping to begin on Monday! I know that as we get closer to next year I might be tempted to purchase the proper hobonichi but for now, this suits me perfectly! 👌

I’ve been watching loads of youtube videos and today I’m going to search on Pinterest. I’ve also heard that tiktok is the place to be for ideas too! Like I mentioned above, I really want to include habit trackers and I also would like to incorporate what I’m reading each week into it to so I can look back and see what books carried me through the months.

I’m super excited for this new venture! I don’t know if I will keep it private and not share the pages once I create them or if I will blog the journey but I wanted to tell you guys about it as it’s something thats been on my mind. My mum treated me to the SPY x FAMILY pencil board so that I won’t leave indentations on the other pages 🤞 and I bought myself a new Staedtler black fineliner as I trust that not to bleed through the pages (I used to have the set but I don’t know where I’ve put it, hopefully I find it but I know that the black one in that is running out of ink so now I’ve got a replacement to use!).

So yeah! My way of testing out a hobonichi weeks journal is basically getting one on temu instead 🙈 Surprise! 🤣. I’m looking forward to starting my journal! Let me know if you have any ideas for the cute graph notebook I got for €3 as I don’t know what to use that for anymore! 🤔 Maybe one day I will get a proper hobonichi but today is not that day 😂.

I’ve gotta go now but you can find more posts in audio form spoken by me over on The Cosy Corner (I uploaded a spooky post yesterday! 🎃) and I’ll see you around! I hope you have a good day/night and I’ll be back next Saturday with another blog post (the weeks go by so fast, it feels like I upload every third day again! 😵‍💫😂. Take care, stay safe and buh-bye ✨️💗.

  1. It’s taken my years to figure out what kind of journal to use. I think I’ve finally found one that I really like for reading, blogging and tracking things I need to do. It’s called the Reading Journal by Little Inklings (https://littleinklings.ca/?srsltid=AfmBOoooybtTUnAGFtNAriJI4357zazEdrlx7N49x5NabEdDRueNYIk7) The price has unfortunately gone up over the years, but it’s my fave. I hope you find your perfect journal! 😊

  2. I used to do bullet journaling but I’m not very artistic and I was never really happy with the spreads I was creating even when I got inspiration from people way better than I am. I switched over to using a premade planner. It was mainly a bookish planner but there was space for me to add in anything else I wanted to track. I got my planner from the same place for the past 6? years and I’ve loved it. I decided to try a new premade planner for 2026 for several reasons and I’m looking forward to getting it in the mail hopefully tomorrow.
