First flight? No problemo! Whether you’re a first time flier or a seasoned veteran this post is for you as you can either gain knowledge or share more helpful tips in the comments section! Recently I went on my first ever flight (I’m 26 and have only been on boats before 🤣 but never again, now we can avoid the dreaded seasickness! 🤢), you can check out my post where I share what I got up to in London by clicking here. My medication makes my mind numb so I wasn’t too nervous (I was mostly anxious about the parking situation and getting from the carpark to the airport but that went smoothly!) and I’ve come away with some tips that I hope will help others through their first experience on an airplane too 🙌.
• Firstly I’ll give a few tips for a seamless airport experience! If at all possible I recommend fast track (is that only a ryanair thing? 🤔) as you get through security quicker as well as into the boarding area faster. Oh and also, if you have a flight app like ryanair do then make sure to check in over 24hrs before your flight as then you can avoid doing so when you arrive at the airport and just head to departures (unless you are carrying additional luggage!).
• Don’t forget to fill up your empty bottle with water to take with you at one of the stations once you pass through security! If you’re worried about feeling dizzy or anything then as always it’s essential to stay hydrated 🙌💧. At both Dublin airport and Luton airport the water station was free if you have a bottle to hand so I hope that’s true for most places, be sure to check beforehand!
• Remember to take travel sickness tablets if you want to. We did on the flight over but we forgot to on the way back, regardless we didn’t feel sick either way (maybe because the flight back was the next day, we could have still had some of the tablet still in our system 🤔😂). Lastly for airport tips, be sure to keep your liquids bag ontop of the rest of the stuff you’ve packed, easy to reach as you have to take it out at security.
• Listen to the flight attendants (this can be difficult as I noticed that I couldn’t properly hear the attendant speaking over the announcement thingamajig on the flight from Dublin to Luton but if you can, it’s important to hear them out if only to show respect if you know what they’re gonna say!).
• Chewing gum works your jaw so that your ears don’t pop as much. My sister couldn’t do this as she has jaw problems but I found it helped me immensely!
• When you’re taking off, rest your head back against the chair. This was my sisters idea as it was painful sitting normally.
• Rethink any reading plans! 😬 I had planned to read on the first flight but I instantly knew it wasn’t gonna be possible. If you find it hard to read in a moving vehicle such as a car then you’ll probably be like me and not find it too appealing on a flight as well. The idea just has you feeling a little pukey so go with your gut on this one and do what comes naturally!
• Know that if you have a cold or a sinus infection, your face hurts on the plane. Or maybe it just hurts in general, I don’t know, I’m not a biologist 😜🤣.
• Similar to chewing gum, headphones help with the whole ear popping ordeal! My sis had a podcast downloaded and listened to it on the flight back home to Ireland and I had loop headphones so I just heard silence or close to it but they helped! I’ll admit one kept trying to slip out and someone else’s did and they had to wait until the flight was over before collecting it as it had rolled to the back of the plane! 🤣
And those are my flight tips! Have you got any more? I bet you do! Do me a favour and throw them into the comments, will ya?
Im current renewing my passport, who knows where the next 10 years with it will take me! 🌎 That’s a very exciting thought ✨️.
I hope you got something from this post or at the very least found it entertaining hearing about what someone’s come away from their first flight with! 🛩 I’ve gotta go now but I’ll see you around the blogosphere and be back with another post soon, take care, stay safe and buh-bye! 😉
These are some great tips! Headphones work the best for me with the popping/air pressure change and just the overall rumble of the flight!
