Hi everyone! How are you doing? 💖 Welcome back or to this blog in the first place if you’re new here! 👋 I’m already super annoyed as I started typing out this post and none of it saved 😤 but the show must go on! ✨️😅 Today I’m going to be sharing some of the best graphic novels I’ve read lately and I already know this I’d going to be a part of a series as I feel guilty about the future reads that will deserve a mention too 🤣. Let’s jump right in, here goes everything!

Mooncakes
By Wendy Xu, Suzanne Walker & Joamette Gil
A story of love and demons, family and witchcraft. Nova Huang knows more about magic than your average teen witch. She works at her grandmothers’ bookshop, where she helps them loan out spell books and investigate any supernatural occurrences in their New England town.
One fateful night, she follows reports of a white wolf into the woods and comes across the unexpected: her childhood crush, Tam Lang, battling a horse demon in the woods. As a werewolf, Tam has been wandering from place to place for years, unable to call any town home. Pursued by dark forces eager to claim the magic of wolves, and out of options, Tam turns to Nova for help. Their latent feelings are rekindled against the backdrop of witchcraft, untested magic, occult rituals, and family ties both new and old in this enchanting tale of self-discovery.
I absolutely adored the art in this book! It made me feel like I was transported into Autumn 🍂. I mean if this were all about the art I would give mooncakes 5/5 but the story fell a bit short so I have to give it a 3. I did read it all in one sitting though so who am I to judge? Twas good 🤣. The name Mooncakes is for sure cute but a bit random in my opinion, as i can recall mooncakes themselves only getting mentioned once but it does make it sound like the cosy read it is.
The princess and the Grilled Cheese sandwich
By Deya Muniz
Lady Camembert wants to live life on her own terms, without marriage. Well, without marrying a man, that is. But the law of the land is that women cannot inherit. So when her father passes away, she does the only thing she can: She disguises herself as a man and moves to the capital city of the Kingdom of Fromage to start over as Count Camembert.
But it’s hard to keep a low profile when the beautiful Princess Brie, with her fierce activism and great sense of fashion, catches her attention. Camembert can’t resist getting to know the princess, but as the two grow closer, will she able to keep her secret?
A romantic comedy about mistaken identity, true love, and lots of grilled cheese.
I gave The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich four out of five stars because I flipping loved it (you can read the review here if you like!). I can remember feeling so happy whilst I read this one, it was such a pageturner.
The prince and the dressmaker
By Jen Wang
Paris, at the dawn of the modern age:
Prince Sebastian is looking for a bride–or rather, his parents are looking for one for him. Sebastian is too busy hiding his secret life from everyone. At night he puts on daring dresses and takes Paris by storm as the fabulous Lady Crystallia–the hottest fashion icon in the world capital of fashion!
Sebastian’s secret weapon (and best friend) is the brilliant dressmaker Frances–one of only two people who know the truth: sometimes this boy wears dresses. But Frances dreams of greatness, and being someone’s secret weapon means being a secret. Forever. How long can Frances defer her dreams to protect a friend? Jen Wang weaves an exuberantly romantic tale of identity, young love, art, and family.
This book was a real treat! It was filled with the most beautiful art and was such an enchanting tale that I fell into thinking I was within the pages of the intricately drawn scenes. When Sebastian recruited Frances it felt like a pivitol moment and seeing how they impacted each others life’s thereafter was simply magical. If I could get everyone to read a book, it would be this one! 🙌✨️
Bloom
By Kevin Panetta & Savanna Ganucheau
Now that high school is over, Ari is dying to move to the big city with his ultra-hip band – if he can just persuade his dad to let him quit his job at their struggling family bakery. Though he loved working there as a kid, Ari cannot fathom a life wasting away over rising dough and hot ovens. But while interviewing candidates for his replacement, Ari meets Hector, an easy going guy who loves baking as much as Ari wants to escape it. As they become closer over batches of bread, love is ready to bloom . . . that is, if Ari doesn’t ruin everything.
I was compelled to read this book as a reviewer mentioned it was like Heartstopper but I didn’t think it was like it at all tbh. Bloom was a slow burner for me but once it hit a certain point it did pick up a bit to be fair. I’d give it 2 stars out of 5 but it’s made this list just incase anyone else out there has a better experience than me. It was a relaxing read I’ll give it that and I did find myself wanting to know what would happen next.
Pumpkinheads
By Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks
Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.
Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world (not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is). They say goodbye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September.
But this Halloween is different – Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last goodbye.
Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: what if instead of moping, they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .
What if their last shift was an adventure?
I think Pumpkinheads was the first ever graphic novel I read 🤔 (or that could have been the simpsons when I was little but nevermind!). It’s such a cosy read that I’m planning on picking it back up again so as to get into an autumnal mood (I feel like summers already finished and we’re there for some reason). If you haven’t read Pumpkinheads yet then I’d throw it at you to get you to do so, it’s a must!!
Crumbs
By Danie Stirling
In a very special town, there’s an even more unusual bakery with a selection of baked treats hand-crafted to help your dreams come true. For Ray, a quiet young woman with special powers of her own, the order is always the same: a hot tea with a delicious side of romance.
When Ray meets Laurie, the kind barista who aspires to be a professional musician, she gets a real taste of love for the first time. But even with a spark of magic, romance isn’t so simple. Both Ray and Laurie are chasing their own dreams and even when Ray starts to see the future, she can’t predict her fate with Laurie.
Based on the beloved webcomic from WEBTOON, this sweet coming-of-age story of friendship and first love comes to life in graphic novel format with gorgeous illustrations and exclusive content.
Crumbs was a magical read for me and although I didn’t give it 5 out of 5 stats in my review (which you can check out here) I did find myself thoroughly enjoying it! It’s a big read and I liked flicking through the pictures, it’s gotta be one I’d recommend!
