Hey! How are you today? π This post has been a year in the making (I know that because I started writing it back when I revisited my spring bucket list last year and I only just put an end to my 2020 one the other day π²β²οΈ Either time is playing a wicked trick on me or I just have a load of forgotten posts floating about like tumbleweed saying “Pick me!” π). I think the main reason it has taken me so long to share this is because other stuff has taken centre stage but I decided to take pity on it and let it have a turn because I’m good like that ππ
I recently had a wave of inspiration and decided to switch it up a bit, I wanted people to be able to leave with more than just ways to wake up from feeling tired. I’m going to shed a light on what that can lead onto because you can’t show up and STAND up if you haven’t woken up from detrimental views that benefit nobody π€· So this post is kinda a two for one deal that will play a part in helping physically and mentally what will all that is going on in the world (even if that last part about damaging views doesn’t extend to YOU exactly, these points might enable you to pull the wool away from somebody else’s eyes ππ). Firstly, here are some ways to wake up if you’re feeling tired:
Number 1 has to be to get a good night’s sleep! π
In isolation I’ve been a terrible one for going to sleep late and I’m ashamed of myself in that moment but at the same time I’m not because I’m my most productive self in the middle of the night and inspiration seems to hunt me down (what am I supposed to do, say “no” to it? That stuff is like gold dust β¨π). I’m planning on creating an evening routine for myself that is easy to incorporate into my life and I’m hoping it will help things to get better ππ΄ The strange thing is that I’m much more awake the day after a sleepless night though so it will be a tough habit to kick to the kerb π΅
Drink LOADS of water π
Even if you’re not thirsty because your body still needs it! π I for one think that you shouldn’t let it get to the point where you even feel thirsty to drink because that’s a warning and they’re not the right kind of reminders in my opinion π Every morning I get a 2 litre bottle of water and I fill up a glass to drink from throughout the day (I used to drink from the bottle but since I had the flu back in December I’ve made a point of grabbing a glass so as not to waste the water with germs should they choose to make a reappearance π·π).
When you grace the world with your presence in the morning, don’t lay in for too long, GET UP.
I’ve gotta practice before I preach but I know how crucial it can be for setting the tone of a day so I’m halfway there right? π When I return to this planet from the land of dreams (no matter how late that may be π) the intention is to get out of bed in the morning, sometimes I fail but in those moments I like to be of the mindset that you get a gold star for effort at least βπ
Let some natural light into your life! βοΈ
Open curtains/blinds and welcome in the light which is so much better than a lightbulb when the option is there π
Put gel packs over your eyes or even better, splash your face with water π§
I find that gel packs are not only good for when I have a migraine but also great when I need to wake up a bit. There was a time at the beginning of the year where no matter how much sleep I got I felt drained throughout the day, even though it was most likely a flare-up I tried my best to do all that was in my power to switch things around, one of which was splashing my face with water or laying a cold flannel over my eyes which is pure BLISS (My Labrador, Ruby, can vouch for that as she loves a cold flannel on her forehead on a warm day ππ).
Take deep breaths of fresh air π
There’s nothing like getting some fresh air into your lungs, I think it’s nicest early in the morning and I have quite a few memories of setting out on adventures as the sun was just rising and maybe it’s because I’d just woken up but the air just felt much more clearer and refreshing ππ
And now we move onto some ways you can wake up from a damaging outlook on life or help someone else do the same:
Talk it out!
Ask others why they feel the way they do and in turn maybe question yourself if you are a small fish surrounded by a majority of those who think differently. Engage in conversations that might be difficult to have but will be beneficial in the long run. Change can often start close to home and branch out further or it can work the other way round just so long as it’s there to begin with π« Hold onto the fact that things should be equal in life no matter what naysayers try to force upon you and it might just rub off on someone who believes otherwise.
Try to put yourself in someone else’s shoes π
You may gain an insight into what they go/have been through in life. Don’t ignore or deem something to be unimportant just because it’s never happened to you before. Everyone has had different experiences in life and has a story to tell so respect that and treat others the way you would wish to be treated. Don’t go around stealing shoes though, this is a metaphor ππ
What’s the easy route for you?
Is it doing nothing or playing a part? Being hateful or kind? Sometimes in life you’re allowed to take the easy path and there won’t be repercussions but when it comes to important stuff we shouldn’t take a backseat. That doesn’t mean it has to be difficult or time consuming, look at it another way and don’t see the work, just envision the positive outcome and along the way you’ll learn to appreciate the journey it takes to get there.
Listen & in turn become more aware of the world around you π
Don’t shut yourself out from the possibility of change. There is always something new to learn, no one is a connoisseur of life and it’s never too late to become educated on any particular subject. You can learn something from everyone and I mean everyone because even the most awful of people can show you what NOT to be like when you think about it ππ. HERE is where you can find resources including petitions to sign in order to help with the black lives matter movement and there is also more in the post I shared before so click, cLicK, CLICK! (I don’t see clicking ππ).
Thank you for reading! π Can you think of anymore ways to wake up? Do you know that feeling when you know you’ve left stuff out but you’re not sure what? π Well that’s where helpful souls like you come into the picture so let me know in the comments below. I hope you have a lovely day and put these plans into action! β¨ Take care π

I NEED to get back into a healthy sleep pattern, but even when I do get enough sleep I still feel super groggy and demotivated within the day. It’s hard being in this rut but I’m trying my best. Your blog never fails to put a smile on my face, which I am thankful for! Such a creative and original post idea too (I imagine this came from a midnight inspiration burst?) Take care π

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful post Elsie, some brilliant tips on how to properly wake up β¨ I feel like there are some really unhelpful tips out there like βset a double alarmβ like if anything that just gives me a headache π At the moment Iβm waking up at 7am but reading my book in bed till 8am, so my goal for next week is to wake up AND get ready at 7am, and then if I get ready and still lay down on my bed reading it still feels like Iβve got up early you know?! π€£ Iβve mostly been trying to get to bed for 9:30 so I can read for a while and then sleep because tiredness can just disrupt and sometimes destroy my productive days π Another tip I would add is definitely jump straight into the shower to wake you up, or even do some exercise because nothing wakes me up like a 6k run at 7am π Take cate x

Thank you so much! π Yeah, I think I’ve only set myself an alarm once and that was to get up early on the morning of a holiday so as not to miss the boat πβ΅ Definitely doesn’t sound like the greatest start to the day forcing/shocking your body into waking up. That sounds like such a lovely way to come around in the morning by waking up to read a book tho π Yeah that makes sense! And 7am is an achievement in itself β¨ I go at 10pm but only doze off at midnight π as time just seems to go so fast once I pick up my book so I need to change that. Ahh I really want to jump into the shower as I’ve heard such good things about doing that in the morning but my legs have been so bad lately so I can’t really stand π© but maybe if I catch myself early I’ll do it before the pain kicks in, anything to keep a refreshed mind throughout the day even if my body tries to pull me in the opposite direction with a flare-up π Haha I can imagine! Back when isolation started my sister was going for early morning walks everyday and I went with her twice and it was so nice waking up alongside nature (the plan was to jump out of bed and just go in our pajamas but I couldn’t being myself to do that π). Thank you lovely, you too β¨π

No worries! Haha really?! Do you like naturally wake up because I have to set myself alarms like everyday π That is true but sometimes I have no choice, but my body clock seems to start naturally waking up at 7am which is really good! Yes it is, it honestly is such a nice start to the day βΊοΈ Awh thank you! Thatβs not too bad, but agreed! Time really does fly when reading. Oh no! That sounds awful, I hope you manage to get in the shower early π¦ Yes that sounds so calming! Haha walks in pyjamas, I love that π

The sound of our dogs wakes me up most mornings π Either that or if I have something happening that day that requires me to be up early it’s like I’m unconsciously aware of it so I’ll automatically wake up early (like this morning I had to be up for a video call so I was surprised I woke up early for it π). Maybe I should trick my mind into thinking I have to be up early more and that will work π€ It would probably be fun, next time I feel up to it I don’t think I’ll question going for a walk in my pajamas, I’ll just go for it ππ

Haha! So itβs not just me?! Like when I know I have to wake up at a specific time, sometimes my brain literally wakes my body up which is so strange π What a good idea! Let me know if it works! For sure, enjoy your next walk in your pyjamas!
