What (some) non-bloggers don’t understand

Hi everyone! I hope you’re well ❀️ The title of this post might sound slightly condescending but let me explain! πŸ™ŒπŸ˜‚ I can’t remember much of how life was without my blog which feels really strange but I can vaguely conjure up some views I once held and add to them what I now know of some others holding about bloggers too.

Blogging, like many things, can be a difficult thing to understand if you don’t do it yourself and today I thought I’d pick at those notions some people hold that aren’t entirely true about being a blogger! Lets go…

The unique community

This is something I had no idea existed before I started blogging, and how could I? You have to be a part of it to understand how it feels (and even then you wouldn’t have to be a blogger yourself, you could be a reader!). There are so many people out there who are from various parts of the world that I don’t think I would have had the opportunity to connect with had I not created Elsie LMC and that is just crazy to me because it makes me remember that the decision to do this was a blip in time that felt big because it secretly was. Back then I couldn’t pinpoint why it felt that way but now I can see that deep down I knew it would lead me to who I now consider to be some of my closest friends ✨

How much a kind comment really means

If you’re on the outside commenting you might want to show gratitude and not expect it to be noticed or reciprocated but it will be because it means so much to receive lovely comments πŸ’¬. I get very excited when I read a comment on my posts and although I don’t always know what to say back and am kind of repeating myself most of the time by saying “thank you” I really do mean it and I hope it shows!

How difficult it can be to maintain a blog

Many people believe that blogging is just sitting around getting stuff for free and being payed for doing the bare minimum but that is far from the truth! It isn’t easy in any way shape or form, there is always that bit of work that has to go into making it look easygoing enough for someone to want to read it. There’s keeping up a schedule so your readers know when to expect you, gathering inspiration whenever possible and somehow finding a way to put your thoughts into words which is DIFFICULT! There’s also replying to comments, sourcing/taking photos and editing them and typing the post out. Then there are the tasks of networking, advertising and so much more that escapes me at this point in time because it has become a habit πŸ˜‚

The drama that goes with having a blog πŸ’₯

Horrible people can come along and try to undermine you and whichever way you choose to deal with this (by replying or ignoring) it can be a hella difficult to cope! It’s not all sunshine and rainbows but the good times by far outweigh the bad πŸ’«

The dynamic behind that crazy belief πŸ’© (kinda similar to a point above πŸ˜‚)

I’m sure we’ve all heard this one before “bloggers sit around and do nothing and get paid for it!” I remember being told this to my face (about YouTubers/Bloggers in general) and I’d only just started my blog but even I knew it wasn’t true. It really made me feel uncomfortable as I just knew this persons view wasn’t going to be swayed so I didn’t even tell them I had a blog and just let the conversation drift on. If you get paid because of your blog than you are obviously doing something to make that happen like the majority of things in life and even then not every blogger gets paid and that’s okay too! It’s a horrible view to have, especially if you have no proof to back the idea when applying it to thousands of people 🀷

The time that goes into it

You’ve got to put time into something in order to get the benefits out of it in return ⏰ Sometimes it can be stressful figuring out how to make time for doing the things I love and it is then that I put it all into perspective and revaluate what is important to me (my blog is definitely one of those things and I don’t ever want to rush my thoughts just so that I have something to show for it on the day that I upload a post!). Like I mentioned above an awful amount of hard work goes into this whole thing and that can’t all be completed in the space of 10 minutes! I wouldn’t want it to be because I enjoy it far too much πŸ˜‚

How much of a passion it can become

I LOVE blogging and I’m very passionate about it. Quite frankly I never want it to end! I can imagine that someone with an outsiders perspective might not understand that as they probably didn’t think of all the hidden positives. This whole blogging lark can be difficult but it’s worth it! I like to picture an elderly me still happily typing away on this blog but I can’t for the life of me think what it will possibly be about which is the magic of it all! I don’t know where I’m going but I’m going to keep doing what I love for that reason alone ✨

Thank you for reading! πŸ˜‰ Can you think of anything else non-bloggers don’t understand? Let me know in the comments and have a great day! ❀️

  1. I totally agree. It’s such a passion I have but honestly, I’ve had to stop talking about it around my family. They think it’s a bogus waste of my time and I’m too wrapped up in the technical world.

    1. I’m glad I’m not the only one!! The negative voice in my head tries to tell me that I’m unappreciative if I don’t know what to say back but I have to push it down and remind myself that I don’t know what to say half the time because lovely comments mean so much and I don’t want to let them go by unnoticed ✨❀️

  3. I understand. I deal with discriminating ideas about bloggers every day from some people I care about most. It’s tough. But I love it too so I’m not quitting either. I’m deciding I’m going to be winner in every circumstance!
We can choose to have a loser attitude and quit or we can be a winner in-spite of everything.
I am going by Jesus strength, not my own, so I have already won!

  5. Yes! I don’t think people who run blogs realize how much time and effort goes into running a blog and keeping it so it’s not boring!
