Hi everyone! Okay so I’m going to try to get into that zone where I voice a load of opinions (like I did in my blogging do’s and don’ts post) whilst holding down the fear that they won’t be taken well π. Today I will be throwing out there what puts me off reading a blog post (please have your shields at the ready because I have fabulous aim if I do say so myself ππ). Here is what puts me off reading a blog post:
Millions of spelling mistakes
I’ll admit I’m not perfect and might make one or two but when there are loads and I mean LOADS it kind of sets the scene for how much you care about your blog (in that you’re okay with it looking messy and being unreadable).
It doesn’t flow
When the writer is jumping from one topic to the next with no real correlation it can be tough to follow and so I’ll usually give up on trying.
A “subscribe to my blog” banner/advert keeps popping up on their site
If this keeps happening and getting in the way I’ll most likely give up on being given a chance to read the words underneath π I was on a person’s site the other day trying to read what they had written and a banner kept popping up every 10 seconds trying to get me to subscribe and it was REALLY annoying. Lately I’ve found more and more blogs seem to be having adverts like this appear as well and it definitely ruins the whole experience.
It just doesn’t interest me
If it’s unrelatable then it can’t be helped so it’s no one’s fault as it depends on the people who are reading it and their personal likes and dislikes I suppose.
It’s rude or judgemental in opinion
If the blogger is talking down to his or her readers it’s a big let down for me. This (and also rudeness) is a rarity in the blogosphere but it is out there and has put me right off a blog let alone a post.
It is distant
I personally like posts where it feels like you’re chatting with the blogger so if a post feels the complete opposite of this and as though the author expects you to know of something that has happened when you have no idea what they are going on about then I am inclined to stop reading their post.
It’s long (like a snake ππ)
It depends what the post is about but if it seems to be going on for longer than necessary and I am trying to fit in reading a couple of other things then I’ll most likely leave it be. Of course if we’re talking about my all time favourite bloggers though I don’t care how long their posts are, I will read it by hook or by crook! π
If I was told to read it
I’m gonna finish this post on a slightly random one, if I’m told to read a post then I’m less likely to go into it ready to enjoy it if you know what I mean? It’s like if it wasn’t by original choice it is very hard to actually fully put myself into reading it and so I probably won’t see it through to the very end.
Thank you for reading! π I’m very unsure how this post will go down to be honest but I can’t lie, I enjoyed writing it very much π Be sure to let me know what puts you off reading a post, I’d love to hear your thoughts π Have a lovely day! β€οΈ
If you have time to spare, please check out my what are your assumptions about me? post and contribute by getting in touch! I would love to hear from you and it would mean so much π
Excellent list, Elsie! Keep aiming and shooting!

Awesome post!! π Sometimes I can write posts over 2000 words because I’m just really into that topic and excited. One is coming online soon. I sometimes think that people won’t read it or find it too much but I just needed to post it. I guess those are my own insecurities. I also use pictures and split the text so it won’t look that long hahah π I also don’t like people spamming to read a post or follow them.

Thank you lovely! π Ahh can’t wait to read it, you’re blog is one of my fav’s so I have no problem in reading it all ππ Splitting text with pictures is a good idea, I’m too lazy to take pictures so I try to do it in bulk whenever the mood takes me π

Thank you!! I personally enjoy your posts the way they are β€οΈ I always feel like mine are too short so I try to make up for it by adding unnecessary stuff before realizing it’s not needed and deleting it π I think if you’ve said all that you want to say in a post then it is the perfect length and not too long If that makes sense βΊοΈ

Exactly! Thank you so much btw good to know I’m not messing up my attempt on creating a good blog post π tbh I think ur posts are perfect and sometimes the shorter the better. There are times you just want to read a short and get to the point post and there are times u feel like reading a long detailed post. Just depends on the person and the mood in my opinion π

Fully agree with most of your points here. However your opinions are your opinions, and you shouldn’t feel guilty for having them or stating them. It’s interesting to know what puts people off. I enjoyed your post. β€

You’re right, I always feel like I’m holding double standards and my opinion on subjects like this could be thrown back in my face so I worry about sharing them on the blog π Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it π
