Hi everyone! On today’s day of Xmas I thought I’d share with you some different ways to get in the mood! π΅ Last Christmas I wasn’t nearly as excited about it as I am this year (and even this year I feel kind of indifferent towards it) I wasn’t and am not exactly Scrooge, because I want to look forward to it π, I just feel kind of separated from it all and so in remembering how this felt last year and knowing how I feel now I thought I would find different ways to make the most of this time of the year and soak up all of the festive cheer like a sponge! π I hope this list helps you if you’re feeling this way too or even if you’re not, I hope this list adds to your excitement about the big day! βπ
Listen to festive music!
Music can get you in the mood for anything! (That sounded really weird ππ but in the case of Christmas you’ve got to admit it’s true!). I love listening to the Christmas radio station that has started back up and discovering new songs as well as hearing classics! Check out my favourite Xmas songs HERE! π€
Get an advent calendar!
I myself have gone for a traditional chocolate calendar (2 in fact as there was a deal! π One in the morning and one in the evening! π). What with there being so many different types of calanders to choose from I would be surprised if you couldn’t find at least one to help you to look forward to the big day! I don’t think I had a calander last year and that may have played a part in how I didn’t feel as excited as I wanted to feel (I forgot to get one at the beginning of the month and as time went by I thought it wouldn’t be worth having it to open half the doors π but looking back on it now I think it would have just meant double the chocolate! π). It’s too never late to start a calander or even check out free virtual ones online or as apps!
Buy presents for family and friends!
Buying presents for my family and friends is my absolute favourite part about the lead up to Christmas! I look forward to seeing their faces when they open their gifts and giving them little hints about what to expect! No teasing all! π My mum is always giving throughout the year and I think she feels guilty if she has to get something for herself (even if it’s something small) so it is always lovely to build up a list of things I can get her on Christmas (starting from after her birthday!) as then she has to accept it all as she deserves to be treated!
Go window shopping!
Don’t necessarily just look in Windows though π go in the shops and browse through the Christmas stuff! I get excited when I go in Tkmaxx (of course! ππ) and see their layout of themed gifts and cards. It’s all very much how you would expect Santa’s workshop to be like! π
Paint your nails!
Either a festive colour/design or even just with glitter! I did mine grey with a light layer of blue and silver glitter! It made me feel very festive too! π
Wear a Christmas jumper!
Another thing that I didn’t do last year! ππ You don’t have to wear a jumper if you don’t want to, I chose not to last year as I didn’t see the point as I didn’t know that Christmas jumpers could be pretty π But this year I found one that I loved and bought solely for that reason (in other words don’t buy one for the sake of it as then you might not want to wear it, treat yourself to one if you can because it catches your eye, looks comfy and will keep you warm!). I shared my new Christmas jumper with you in my November favourites! π
Make a novelty craft!
This is a great way to make someone a special gift, build up extra decorations, get into the festive spirit and pass the time! As I get older I don’t make as many crafty presents but I do still make handcrafted cards sometimes (as not only are they fun to design but they are a lovely thing to receive!…well I hope they are, I try my best! ππ).
Decorate!
Trees, walls, shelves, tables, bedrooms, you don’t have to be able to see any of them again if you don’t want to! π Coat them in tinsel and ornaments and baubles! Or even just decorate your tree! You can try sticking to one colour this year! (We aim to stick to a theme every time and have just gotten in on that goal this Christmas π, last year it was supposed to be all silver but we couldn’t help ourselves and ended up putting on everything we had resulting in the usual rainbow tree! ππ). Decorate your phone, tablet or computers wallpaper/lockscreen as well for the reminder of what time of year it is every time you pick it up! π
Look back on past Christmas’s!
Remembering beautiful memories made on the day can really remind you what Christmas is all about! Here is a photo of last year’s tree decorations:
I also like looking back on my festive blog posts from last year which you can find here:
I can remember sitting back writing them and feeling the festivity grow as they did help in making me more excited! ππ
Bake Christmassy treats!
Whether they are to be put away for Christmas day, are to be given to a charity or are to be shared around on the day they are made, baking treats is an amazing way to get in the mood for Christmas! Even if you don’t enjoy baking, do it with a friend and the finished treat will surely make you feel festive alongside the fun it was to prepare it! I love smelling all of the spices that go into food around this time of year and think that the kitchen can be as festive a place as wherever the tree is placed in the house! π
Try a seasonal hot drink! β
Go to a cafe and try a delicious seasonal flavoured drink! I myself always end up coming away with an orange hot chocolate no matter how hard I try to get something new π and even though I don’t like coffee, the ones with a gingerbread twist smell like something truly magical! ππ
Switch on the Christmas tree lights (or any fairy lights!)
This adds to the magical feeling of it all whilst you go about your day and is a nice reminder too! π
Spend time with family and friends!
Christmas would be nothing for me without my family! It’s a day when we all stay together and there is loads of laughter and joyfulness! Although it’s mainly immediate family as we live in another country we still make sure we all know what’s going on on eachothers days and that the love is felt in some way or another (major psychic messages! π). It is also important in the lead up to Christmas to do all you can to help people who may not be as fortunate as you are to have a family or friends. I have a post coming up on the 7th day of Xmas which contains ways we can all get involved around this time of year!
Go see a pantomime! (Or other event!)
Over here in Ireland there are loads of Panto’s to go see and events/markets to take part in, like watching the lights get switched on! I enjoy finding some events close to home that go on for more than one day as then there’s more of a chance I can make it out to one and not be banking my luck completely on one day that I might not be able to make because of flare-ups and/or nervousness about going at all (when I have respite from pain I try not to let nerves stop me though as these chances are rare! π). I am yet to do anything this year but I’m hoping on visiting a Christmas market or a winterval event! (One day I’ll be on here telling you I’m going ice skating as there’s a rink that is set up close by every year, you just wait and see! Until then I’ll settle for what I can get! π).
Read a festive book!
I am currently in the middle of reading Brooklyn (I’m taking my time as I don’t want it to end! ππ) before I go to sleep at night, but in the day I am reading “With love at Christmas” by Carole Matthews! I bought it amongst a couple of other festive books a few months ago when I wanted to start reading books that felt like soap operas π and so far it is really good and I’ve found myself laughing more than once! I feel like I’m a part of the main character, Joyce’s life as she struggles to keep her family together in the days leading towards Christmas!
Light a festive candle!
And let the scent carry you through the day (as long as it’s not intoxicating! ππ) and hopefully the it will get you in the mood for the big day!
Watch Christmas movies!
Every year we lose ourselves in Christmas movies and so why would this year be any different? π Although this year for me is a tad different in that I haven’t watched any of my usual favourites, I’ve been watching festive movies that come on TV that I’ve never heard of before! ππ I suppose these are the movies that didn’t quite rise to fame but there are some that I think should have! Last week I ended up watching “Wishin’ and Hopin'” and although I started it halfway through and I was a little bit confused about what was going on, I still enjoyed it! π And then yesterday I watched “A Christmas song” and made sure I switched on the Christmas tree lights whilst it was on π and it was so cosy and sparked a bit of festive cheer!
Thank you for reading day 3 of 12 days of Xmas! π How do you get excited for Christmas? βLet me know and have a lovely day! πβ€

Great ideas!!! It’s sad that I am STILL decorating lol but listening to Christmas songs at work every day and watching Christmas movies at night has definitely helped bring on the holiday spirit! Love the idea of wearing a Christmas jumper and buying a Christmas candle. I would window shop more…but then I buy π
